# Let’s Put LEDs in Things! ## Introduction ![](https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/019/264/medium800/components_led-eyes.jpg?1409336876) Gotta love cosplayers. That mix of fanatical passion and hand-craftedness. These are _makers._ These are _my people._ Walking around fannish events and conventions, the variety of costume- and prop-making techniques is astounding: sewing, leatherwork, casting, chain mail, makeup, foam sculpting, thermoplastic armor, to name a few. But I’m surprised _electronics_ isn’t more prevalent…a _simple thing_ can add _so much_ punch! Remember those little red LEDs on Deckard’s pistol in _Blade Runner,_ how that one detail upped the _badass factor_ tenfold? Or the glowing eyes in the photo above…fantastic costuming to begin with, but the luminous elements put it over the top. [We’re seeing more of this in cosplay](http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2014/09/05/electronics-and-cosplay-at-dragon-con/), but it’s still relatively scarce.
