Install Bluefruit LE Connect

The first step to enable DFU support on your Android device is to install our free Bluefruit LE Connect application, available in the Play Store.

This application will manage the firmware updates for you, including downloading the appropriate firmware image from our Github firmware repo.

Verified Devices

You can perform a field update of your nRF51822 based Bluefruit LE module on most recent Android devices, though Bluetooth Low Energy support was only added to version 4.3, with some important stability updates in 4.4.

Make sure you are running at least Android 4.4 or higher and have a BLE radio inside your phone.

We've tested DFU updates with the following devices:

  • Nexus 6 (Android 6.0.1)
  • Nexus 4 (Android 4.4.4)
  • Nexus 7 - 2013 (Android 4.4.4)
  • LG G4 (Android 5.1)

Note: The 2012 edition of the Nexus 7 won't work since it doesn't support BLE.
