Overview
The Teenage Engineering SP-1 is a hardware stem player device that was never officially released. It was manufactured in a partnership that fell apart before official release. The devices that were manufactured have ended up available in "as-is" condition through liquidation and other online stores. There is no official support or documentation for the device, but a community has formed around tinkering with it. People have created tools to load new music onto the device in its stock firmware, and there are a few 3rd party firmware options available.
This guide will show you how to breathe new life into an SP-1 by loading CircuitPython onto it. Most of the hardware peripherals are accessible from CircuitPython. The demo project included in the guide implements 4-track stem playback and uses the fader bars on the device to control the volume of each track, putting the final mix into your hands.
