The following connections are made between Circuit Playground Express and the NeoPixel strip:

Remember: NeoPixel strips are directional. Be sure you're soldering to the IN end of the strip. Check the arrows printed on the PCB, they should be pointing in the direction of data flow.
The on/off switch plugs into the JST connector, and the battery plugs into the other end of the switch wire.
