Wiring Harness
The wiring harness makes plugging in the buttons and joystick nice and straightforward. The harness is segmented into five sections: joystick wires, four bottom (K) row wires (we're only using three in this build), four upper row (P) wires, four special button (Start, Home, Select), and the ground line.
Notice the daisy chain of black ground wires in the photo below, these help keep the bundle under control.
This is what the wiring looks like directly connected to the KB2040, but you won't need to wire directly if you use the Fightstick v2 breakout board and the Brook wiring harness as shown in the diagram above.
Header
Plug the arcade wiring harness into the header on the KB2040 Fightstick v2 breakout as shown. Be sure to orient it properly.
Joystick Plug
Plug in the joystick socket as shown.
You can also neaten up the wiring sections as you go with a zip tie.
Ground Control to Major Buttons
Connect one leg of each button to ground using the ground wire daisy chain. Press the terminal connectors into place firmly.
Small Buttons
Connect the three small buttons as shown. These are, from left to right in the photo, Start, Home, and Select.
Status LED Side Quest
This is a totally optional side quest, but if you'd like to go all out and add a power on LED, follow me... Remember that volume knob/headphone jack/power LED board we yanked out of the original record player?
It's a nice little 3mm red LED. Snip it off and wire it to a 1kΩ resistor and an arcade button wiring cable (or other JST 0.1" connector) to plug into the D1/GND jack that was added to the KB2040 Fightstick v2 board.
Bend the legs a bit if needed and press fit the LED back into its original spot in the MDF top plate.
Then plug the connector into the KB2040 breakout board.
