Connecting the RTC
The PCF8523 RTC is used as an example here, but the connections are similar for the other RTC options.
PiRTC Version
For any of the PiRTC options, just place it on the Pi's GPIO header away from the USB ports.
Be sure to place it on the last 6 pins with the mounting hole of the RTC aligning with the mounting hole of the Pi. Putting it on other pins could harm both boards.
STEMMA QT Breakout Version
For any of the breakout versions with a STEMMA QT connector, the connections can be made without any soldering using a STEMMA QT cable:

The female connectors will connect directly to the Pi's GPIO header pins:
- red wire to 3.3V
- black wire to GND
- blue wire to SDA
- yellow wire to SCL
Original Breakout Version
Wiring connections are:
- Connect VCC on the breakout board to the 5.0V pin of the Pi (if using DS1307)
Connect VCC on the breakout board to the 3.3V pin of the Pi (if using PCF8523 or DS3231) - Connect GND on the breakout board to the GND pin of the Pi
- Connect SDA on the breakout board to the SDA pin of the Pi
- Connect SCL on the breakout board to the SCL pin of the Pi
