# 3D Printed Pi Camera Case and Tripod ## Overview ![](https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/028/811/medium800/raspberry_pi_FM1A0071.jpg?1448900499) This is a simple project for making an 3D printed case and tripod for the Raspberry Pi camera board. It's great for photographpy and monitoring projects that need a basic stand. For example, you could use this to make a monitoring setup for an OctoPrint connected 3D printer. The tripod-foot.stl part works best if printed in rubber filament. The parts are oriented in the center of the bed and ready to print "as is". Support material are not necessary for any of the parts. Check out your local listing [3D Hubs](http://3dhubs.com/) # 3D Printed Pi Camera Case and Tripod ## Assembly To start, we can attach the base connector to the enclosure using an M3 screw and then install the camera tripod adapter to the inside of the base connector. ![raspberry_pi_screw-adapter-back.jpg](https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/028/814/medium640/raspberry_pi_screw-adapter-back.jpg?1448987302) ![raspberry_pi_insert-thread-connector.jpg](https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/028/815/medium640/raspberry_pi_insert-thread-connector.jpg?1448987315) ![](https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/028/816/medium800thumb/raspberry_pi_insert-flex-cam.jpg?1448987358) We can then insert the flex cable from the pi camera through the opening of the enclosure part and pull it all the way through. ![](https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/028/818/medium800/raspberry_pi_fasten-screws-case.jpg?1448988832) You’ll want to lay the camera board over the standoffs and hold it in place while fastening 4 machine screws into the of the back of the case. ![](https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/028/819/medium800thumb/raspberry_pi_camera-lens.jpg?1448989245) We can use a camera lens that are commonly used for mobile phones by sticking the included o-ring to the front of the case which is pretty nice because it uses a magnet making it easy to swap out different lenses. ![](https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/028/820/medium800thumb/raspberry_pi_install-legs.jpg?1448989611) To assemble the tripod, we’ll insert a hex nut and then insert a tripod leg into the slots near the bottom. While holding the hex nut in place, We can insert and fasten a machine screw into the hole on the side. ![](https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/028/821/medium800thumb/raspberry_pi_install-feet.jpg?1448989973) For grippy feets, we used ninjaflex filament.
